Many people feel that the only time they need an eye exam is when they want to replace their eyeglasses. While it is important to see well, undesirable changes in your eye health can occur without affecting your vision! Follow the advice of experts and have your eyes examined on a regular basis.

There is a significant difference between a vision screening and a thorough eye examination. We offer a state-of-the-art eye health and vision examination that will uncover hidden, potentially sight threatening eye disorders and diseases that are not found by a simple eye exam. The American Optometric Association recommends a child's first eye examination at age 6 months and once a year for all adults.

What is a Complete Eye Exam and Consultation?

During an eye exam, the doctors will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications your are currently taking, any blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed during this part of the examination. The doctors will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.

What is Eye Function?

In addition to evaluating your vision to determine the need for corrective lenses, an eye exam in our Succasunna Roxbury Area office includes determining eye function. Our optometrist performs several tests to evaluate depth perception (3D vision), color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. Several other simple tests are completed to determine whether the eyes are focusing, moving, and working together properly. The test results enable our doctors to diagnose any underlying conditions that may be impairing the eyes ability to focus or work together.  Depending on the results of your vision test, our doctors may prescribe corrective glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.

What is an Eye Health Exam?

As part of a comprehensive eye exam, our Succasunna Roxbury Area optometrists examine the overall health of the eye. The doctors evaluate eye health by visually inspecting the eye and eyelids. To examine the internal structures of the eye, we may dilate the pupils. This part of the exam is used to diagnose diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. After completing these short tests, our doctors review the results and discusses an treatments with you. Contact us at 973-584-2020 today to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.
